Thu Oct 8 · 3:21 PM ET First publish. Five Friday games: lines from eight Nevada books and the platform (3:12 PM ET), two-book splits (3:12 PM), three ratings and the expert room (3:12–3:14 PM), Match Details with injuries for all five (3:19–3:21 PM), weather at the kickoff hour (3:20 PM). No picks. Not yet done: props sweep, panels, openers, Friday's re-read.
Friday night, five games: an early look — no picks until Friday's re-read
This is the Thursday-afternoon read of Friday's college slate: lines, where each book's money is, what three rating systems say, who is hurt and the weather. It makes no picks. Our own record is the reason — college sides built on splits read the day before went 13 of 34, and the market-maker's college handle is thin until game day. Friday's run re-reads both books, sweeps the props board, opens the panels and publishes the card. What follows is the list of things that run has to settle.
How to read the money. "The public book" is a major U.S. book; "the market-maker" is the Vegas market-making book; "our data platform" is the platform whose Match Details supply the rankings, injuries and public-betting figures. Percentages are money first, tickets second. All captures Thu Oct 8, 3:12–3:21 PM ET. Kickoffs are ET. Totals are described but this site no longer publishes them.

Florida State at Louisville
Fri 7:00 PM ETVenue
Louisville, Kentucky (outdoors)
Weather at kickoff
78°F, wind 5 mph, 1% rain
Line
Louisville −3.5 at six Nevada books · −4 at the market-maker
⚡ THE JUICE. Florida State (3–2) scores 33.2 a game and runs for 194 (41st); it meets a Louisville (2–3) defense that is 113th in scoring (29.2 allowed) and 130th against the pass (266.8 a game). The Seminoles are without receiver Devin Carter (back) and running back Samuel Singleton. Louisville is down two tight ends (Hamilton Atkins, Travis Egan) and receiver Montavin Quisenberry, with running back Keyjuan Brown Questionable.
💸 THE CROWD VS THE CASH. The public book: Florida State 77% of the spread money on 68% of tickets — the public is on the road dog. The market-maker: Louisville 53% of the money on 46% of tickets — thin on a Thursday, and pointing the other way. Our data platform: 67% of bets and 67% of money on Florida State. Three rating systems (home line): −6.7 / −4.2 / −9.7 against −3.5 — all three make Louisville the right side by a point to six. Total: the public book has 89% of the money on the Over from 46% of tickets; two model totals are 56.4 and 57.7 against 59.5. The expert room: one play, on the Over.
🔭 WHAT FRIDAY HAS TO SETTLE. This is the cleanest setup on the slate: public tickets at 68% on the dog (a CONTRARIAN tag for Louisville) and three ratings on the favorite. What it lacks is the market-maker's money in size. If Friday's re-read shows the market-maker's dollars 10 points ahead of tickets on Louisville and the number still at −3.5, it is a candidate. If the line goes to −4.5, the value is spent.

Washington State at Utah State
Fri 9:00 PM ETVenue
Logan, Utah (outdoors)
Weather at kickoff
71°F, wind 5 mph, 1% rain
Line
Utah State −5.5 at seven books · Washington State +6 (−115) at the market-maker
⚡ THE JUICE. Two 1–4 teams. Washington State's offense is 120th in scoring (19 a game), 126th in passing (159.2), 132nd on third down (27.6%) and 130th in yards per play. Utah State's defense is ordinary — 80th in scoring, 102nd against the pass. Utah State has receiver Rex Haynes and tight end Kache Kaio Doubtful and running back Nehemiah Washington Questionable.
💸 THE CROWD VS THE CASH. The public book: Washington State 90% of the spread money on 71% of tickets; on the moneyline the Cougars have 76% of the money from 25% of tickets. The market-maker: Washington State 97% of the money on 79% of tickets. Our data platform: 71% of bets, 90% of money on Washington State. Three rating systems (home line): −3.7 / −4.6 / +0.1 against −5.5 — all three on the Washington State side of the number. Total: 89% of the public book's tickets are on the Over and 95% of its money is on the Under. The expert room: one on the Utah State moneyline, one on the Under.
🔭 WHAT FRIDAY HAS TO SETTLE. Both books' dollars and all three ratings sit on Washington State — and so do seven tickets in ten, which makes this a popular dog, not a contrarian one. A dog the public already likes needs the number to hold: +6 is at the market-maker now. Friday's questions are whether +6 survives, and whether an offense ranked 132nd on third down can be trusted to stay inside it.

Wyoming at San Jose State
Fri 9:00 PM ETVenue
San Jose, California (outdoors)
Weather at kickoff
70°F, wind 6 mph, 1% rain
Line
San Jose State −4.5 at four books · −4 at the market-maker · −5 and −6 at one each
⚡ THE JUICE. Wyoming (2–3) is 135th in scoring at 14.2 a game and 132nd in passing (143 yards). Quarterback Taylor Hasselbeck is out for the season, and receivers Deion DeBlanc (out) and Tyler Nystrom (season) are gone with him. San Jose State (3–2) throws for 256 a game.
💸 THE CROWD VS THE CASH. The public book: San Jose State 97% of the spread money on 82% of tickets. The market-maker: Wyoming 99% of the money on 60% of tickets. The two books' dollars are on opposite teams. Three rating systems (home line): −5.4 / −11.3 / −6.7 against −4.5 — all three on San Jose State. Total: the public book is 86% of the money on the Over; the market-maker is 83% on the Under. The expert room: nothing posted.
🔭 WHAT FRIDAY HAS TO SETTLE. By this site's rule, books that disagree on the side are a stay-away, and that is where this game starts. The ratings all lean San Jose State; the one sharp signal leans Wyoming on a Thursday when the market-maker's handle is small. If the market-maker's Wyoming money is still there Friday afternoon with real volume behind it, the game stays off the card. If it has evened out, three ratings and a quarterback injury make San Jose State worth a look.

No. 20 Iowa at Washington
Fri 9:00 PM ETVenue
Seattle, Washington (outdoors)
Weather at kickoff
55°F, wind 4 mph gusting 12–22, 8–12% rain
Line
Washington −3 at seven books · −3.5 (+100) at one · Iowa +3.5 (−120) on our platform
⚡ THE JUICE. The injury report is the handicap. Iowa quarterback Hank Brown is Questionable with a shoulder sprain. Washington is without three running backs — Quaid Carr, Jayden Limar and Jordan Washington are all out — and receiver Christian Moss. Iowa (4–1) runs for 180 a game into a Washington defense that is 36th against the run and 23rd on third down. Washington is 0–2 in the conference.
💸 THE CROWD VS THE CASH. The public book: Iowa has 81% of the spread tickets and Washington has 71% of the money — the dollars are 52 points ahead of the tickets on the Huskies. The market-maker: Iowa 67% of the money on 59% of tickets — the other way. Three rating systems (home line): −0.7 / −1.5 / −3.6 against −3 — two of three on the Iowa side. Total: the public book has 98% of the money on the Under from 44% of tickets. The expert room: one on Iowa +3.5, one on the Under.
🔭 WHAT FRIDAY HAS TO SETTLE. Nothing here is settled until Iowa names a quarterback. The public book's big money is on Washington against four tickets in five, the market-maker's is on Iowa, and the number is sitting on the 3 with the hook for sale both ways (+3.5 at −120, −3.5 at +100). Friday: Brown's status first, then which book's money moved.

Iowa State at No. 8 BYU
Fri 10:15 PM ETVenue
Provo, Utah (outdoors)
Weather at kickoff
72°F, wind 7 mph, 2% rain
Line
BYU −10 at six books · −10.5 at one and on our platform
⚡ THE JUICE. BYU (4–0) allows 14.2 points a game (16th) and 75 rushing yards (9th), and holds teams to 4.3 yards a play. Its backfield is thin: LJ Martin is out after ankle surgery and Sione Moa is out for the season. Iowa State (3–2) runs for 197 a game (39th) and has scored on every red-zone trip, but is 107th on third down and is missing running back Salahadin Allah and receivers Evan Boyd and Carter Pabst for the season, with two tight ends listed.
💸 THE CROWD VS THE CASH. The public book: Iowa State 76% of the spread money on 31% of tickets — dollars 45 points ahead of tickets on the dog. The market-maker: BYU 58% of the money on 38% of tickets — dollars 20 ahead of tickets on the favorite. Each book's sharp side is the other book's public side. Three rating systems (home line): −14.9 / −10.2 / −11.5 against −10 to −10.5 — two on BYU, one on the number. Total: both books have the money on the Under (84% and 83%) against 81% of the public book's tickets on the Over. The expert room: one on Iowa State +11.5, one on BYU −10.
🔭 WHAT FRIDAY HAS TO SETTLE. The two books disagree and the experts are split one each. The only thing both books agree on is the Under money, and this site does not publish totals. Unless one book's side moves the number off 10 by Friday afternoon, this is a watch-the-props game — BYU's lead back is out and Friday's sweep should start with who gets his carries.
The short version
Closest to a play: Louisville −3.5 (public on the dog, three ratings on the favorite — needs the market-maker's money). Popular dog: Washington State +5.5/+6 (both books and all three ratings — and 71% of tickets). Books disagree: Wyoming–San Jose State, Iowa–Washington, Iowa State–BYU. One injury decides a game: Iowa quarterback Hank Brown, Questionable. Not done yet: the props board sweep, panels and tiles for all five games, opening lines, and Friday's re-read of both books. Tonight's four Thursday college games (Missouri State–Western Kentucky, Sam Houston–Liberty, South Florida–UTSA, South Alabama–Arkansas State) were not carded.
Sourcing: our data platform (games board and Match Details for all five games — rankings, public betting, injuries tab with every listed player); a Las Vegas betting network's two-book money splits, eight-book Nevada tracker, three power-rating systems and the expert room; a national forecast model at each venue for the kickoff hour.
