The Platoon Gate Turned Tonight's Card Into An Over Card — And We're Re-Betting Yesterday's Two Most Painful Legs

Six MLB player prop picks for Aug 25, 2026, from a fifteen-game slate. Five lefty starters flipped nearly every Under on the screen into a platoon conflict, Willi Castro finally makes the card after cashing twice in the shadow ledger, and Byron Buxton's RBI Under publishes as the one flagged conflict — the exact leg the gate wrongly dropped last night.

How to read this card. Edge Gap ranks, the matchup layer gates. Edge Gap is the distance between our blended hit rate and the probability the price implies — computed in code from the odds, never typed by hand. Blended hit rate is 0.40 season + 0.30 L20 + 0.20 L10 + 0.10 L5. Prices are the best genuine sportsbook number on our data platform's board, pulled 7:20 AM ET; a DFS operator rows are stripped before ranking. Lineups are our lineup service EXPECTED lineups, captured 7:30 AM ET, and are labelled projected on every leg because they are projections — that rule exists because of our own August 18 mistake.

Five lefty starters turned the screen upside down

The saved screen returned 131 props across a fifteen-game slate, and the shape of tonight's board is set by one fact: Tolle, Kay, Liberatore, Harrison and Jump — five left-handed starters — are pitching in five separate games. A lefty on the mound hands the platoon edge to every right-handed and switch hitter he faces, and that flipped almost every Under the screen liked into a conflict. The result is an Over-heavy card, and we would rather publish the tilt than fight it: when the gate keeps saying the same thing, the card should look like what the gate said.

What the gate dropped, and what it cost to drop it

Dropped legBlendedWhy it fell
Grant McCray U0.5 Bases (+120)74.9Biggest raw edge on the board — and a double fail: LHB vs RHP Singer is the platoon edge to the hitter, and our data platform flags SF playing-time risk on top
Byron Buxton U2.5 H+R+RBI (−119)78.2Second night running his combo Under conflicts with a lefty starter. Last night the drop was RIGHT — he went 3-for-5. The RBI Under below is the surgical version, not this blunt one
Lars Nootbaar U1.5 H+R+RBI (−113)75.2LHB vs RHP Holmes — hitter's edge against the Under — and he leads off, which is maximum plate appearances against a 1.5 line
Carlos Narváez U0.5 Bases (−130)75.1RHB vs LHP Liberatore. The platoon gate does not make exceptions for guys batting 9th
Justin Foscue U0.5 Runs (−140)75.6RHB vs LHP Kay, and he leads off. The 100% H2H window is four PAs of seduction
Luis Rengifo O0.5 H+R+RBI (−159)77.7Not a matchup fail — an editorial one. He burned us last night when the projected lineup didn't hold (pinch-hit, one AB), and tonight the man on the mound is Paul Skenes. Twice-shy is a rule too
Royce Lewis U1.5 Bases (−134)70.5our data platform's EV+ model likes it — we dropped it anyway: RHB vs LHP Jump is the platoon edge to the hitter. Two models arguing in public; ours has the platoon data

The Castro leg is the shadow ledger walking through the front door

Two straight days the publish clock excluded Willi Castro's early game, and two straight days the leg cashed — including a home run last night. The shadow ledger of clock-excluded legs is now 4-for-4 with one void. Tonight the card publishes at 8:20 AM ET, ten hours before the 6:45 first pitch, so the clock has no excuse — and neither do we. The honest caveat rides with the leg: our data platform carries a COL playing-time flag and the lineup is a projection until Colorado posts it.

The argument against our #1 pick

The strongest case against Castro Over 0.5 Bases: it leans on a our lineup service projected lineup — the exact instrument that burned us on Rengifo not twenty-four hours ago — for a last-place team with an our data platform injury flag, and at −185 the price gives back most of the window edge. If Colorado posts a lineup without Castro in it, this leg is dead money before first pitch. The projection failing is not a tail risk; it happened to us yesterday. Verify the posted lineup, or size it like a guess.
Also true and worth saying: yesterday's prop card went 0-for-4 — the worst day this site has published — and the response is on the track record page, not hidden. The method stays the same because the sample says the method, not the day, is the signal. If that changes, we will say so first.
