Small slate tonight — two games, four teams. Our first-pass screen turned up eight players with strong Edge Gap numbers. Four made the final card. This is the writeup of why the other four didn't, because that process matters more than the survivors do.

The Card

The reasoning

Alanna Smith — Under 2.5 Assists. The largest Edge Gap on the board tonight. Her season, last-10, and last-20 rates on staying under this number are all clustered together — no single hot or cold stretch is doing the heavy lifting. Both she and Odyssey Sims checked out clean on Indiana's final injury report; neither is listed, and the expected Dallas lineup has both starting.
Odyssey Sims — Under 14.5 Points+Rebounds. This isn't her highest-Edge-Gap prop tonight — that one's below, and we didn't publish it. This is the next one down, and it's better supported: a market-details note we found says she's failed to clear 14.5 combined points and rebounds in 18 of her last 19 games. That's not a small-sample fluke, that's close to the entire recent record pointing one direction.
Awa Fam — Over 12.5 Points+Rebounds. Seattle ranks 12th against this stat — a below-average defense in the specific category this prop needs, which is the kind of matchup confirmation we like paired with a real Edge Gap.
Jade Melbourne — Under 5.5 Assists, published with an honest flag. Her price-vs-history number clears our bar. But Seattle ranks 15th — dead last in the league — against assists allowed to opposing guards, which is a real matchup conflict working against an Under. We're publishing it because the history is real and we don't want to quietly hide a leg that has one signal against it; just know the matchup layer is arguing the other way on this one specifically.

Where the matchup layer removed picks

Four other players cleared our Edge Gap screen tonight and didn't make the card.

Odyssey Sims — Under 11.5 Points. DROPPED. The single highest Edge Gap of the night at +40.2 — and that's exactly the problem. That number sits right at the threshold where we stop trusting a line and start suspecting it's stale or broken. We didn't chase it, and we found a better-supported alternative on the same player instead (see #2 above).
Ezi Magbegor — Under 12.5 Points+Rebounds. DROPPED. Strong Edge Gap (+34.6), but Portland's opponent rank against this stat argues the wrong way for an Under, and we couldn't get a clean read on her role tonight that resolved the conflict. When the matchup data and the price disagree this directly, we let it drop rather than force a pick.
Awak Kuier — Under 8.5 Points. DROPPED. Decent number (+26.6), but this pick would have been our second Dallas Wings leg in a game where we're already featuring two Indiana-side reads through Smith and Sims — and Kuier's supporting signal was the thinnest of the eight candidates. Cut for card balance and conviction, not a hard red flag.
Kelsey Mitchell — Over 25.5 Points. DROPPED. Good recent scoring form, but her full-season rate on this number is well below her recent hot stretch — the kind of gap between "hot right now" and "true rate" that our sample-discipline rule exists to catch. We'd rather pass than bet a five-game streak as if it were a full-season trend.

A process note: no projection pull today

Honest gap in tonight's process. On slates with a cleaner data pull, we run a third signal — a forward-looking minutes/production projection — against Edge Gap and matchup rank. Today's projection source loaded as a JavaScript-rendered page we couldn't extract cleanly in the time we had, so tonight's card runs on two signals (Edge Gap and opponent rank) plus a manual injury-report check, not three. We're saying so rather than presenting two signals dressed up as three.

The case against our own #1 pick

Alanna Smith's assist total is partly a role question, not just a skill question. She's a forward whose assist number depends on how much ball-handling responsibility shifts to her if Indiana's guards get into early foul trouble or Dallas changes its defensive coverage. A game that turns into extended garbage time, either direction, tends to produce weirder-than-usual box scores across the board, assists included. The Edge Gap here is real, but it's a cleaner bet in a competitive game than a lopsided one.

We're keeping her at #1 because the underlying rate is genuinely the strongest number on the board. Just know the pick assumes a normal, competitive game script.

Injuries checked

We checked the latest injury reports for all four teams before finalizing this card. Indiana's Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are both listed questionable but trending toward playing; neither is a featured player on this card either way. Seattle is missing Flau'jae Johnson and Taina Mair, and Portland is down two players for the season to torn ACLs — none of those absences change the rotation math for the four players featured above.

Odds and lines move; everything above was recorded pregame and may differ by the time you read it. Always confirm your own price.
