The Biggest Edge On The Board Is Aimed At The Second-Best Defence In The League

Two games, and the three biggest edges on the board all point into a top-two defence. That is the second consecutive day the WNBA screen has produced exactly this shape, and it is why one leg is published instead of four.

The timing trap, first

our data platform's WNBA props board this morning was showing propositions from five games — Connecticut at Las Vegas, Indiana at Dallas and Atlanta at Los Angeles alongside the two real ones. Those three are tomorrow. The Games page carries only Toronto at Washington (7:30 PM ET) and Minnesota at Golden State (10:00 PM ET) for today. Anyone screening props without checking the schedule separately would have published three legs on games that have not been scheduled yet. We check the Games page every morning for exactly this reason and it caught something today.

What the gate removed

Brittney Sykes Over 13.5 Points+Assists — Edge Gap +38.1, dropped. The largest edge on either sport's board this morning. Blended 91.6 against −115, driven by a 94% season rate and a 100% last ten. Washington ranks 2nd in the league defending points-plus-assists. The number is enormous and it is pointed directly into the second-best defence in the category. We are not taking it, and we would rather explain a +38 walk-away than dress it up.
Kayla McBride Over 3.5 First-Quarter Points (+23.3) and Over 7.5 First-Half Points (+22.8) — dropped. Golden State ranks 1st defending this category. Best defence in the league. Same shape as Sykes, one game over.
Natasha Howard Over 2.5 Assists (+13.3) — dropped. Also into Golden State's first-ranked defence, and her head-to-head figure in this matchup is 20%.

The one that got cut on injuries, not on the matchup

Marina Mabrey Under 7.5 Two-Point Attempts — Edge Gap +16.9, Neutral on the defensive rank, dropped anyway. This one cleared the matchup gate and then failed the injury check, which is the check that has burned us before. Toronto is missing Nyara Sabally (calf, out until mid-September) and had Maria Conde (calf), Julie Allemand (thigh) and Zaay Green all ruled out last night. A shot-attempt Under is a usage bet, and usage bets get worse when the rotation gets thinner. The hit rates that produced a +16.9 edge describe a Toronto team with more bodies than the one taking the floor tonight. Dropping it costs us an edge; publishing it would have meant using a number that describes a role Mabrey no longer has.

The one leg we are publishing, and what is wrong with it

Isabelle Harrison Under 19.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists at −123. Edge Gap +17.9, and Confirms: Washington is 2nd in the league defending this exact category, which is the same fact that killed the Sykes leg — a strong defence hurts an Over and helps an Under. Toronto also played last night at home against Indiana and travels to Washington on no rest, and back-to-backs compress minutes.

The argument against it. Two things. First, the margin last night was two points: Harrison went for 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists in 21 minutes — 17 against a 19.5 line. That is a hit, and it is not a comfortable one. Second, and worse, the same Toronto injury list that killed the Mabrey leg cuts against this one too. A short rotation means more minutes for whoever is available, and Harrison is available. We are publishing it because the defensive rank and the back-to-back both point the same way and the season rate is 64% against a 55% implied — but the usage risk is real and it is the reason this is the only leg on the card rather than one of two.
